Wherever you are coming from, almost nothing can top your grandma’s cooking. Hence, you will be cooking a range of dishes from recipes handed down by our grandmothers or even great-grandmothers. These easy-to-prepare dishes will allow you to recreate traditional Greek delicacies at home and impress your friends and family!
As you commence this experience, you will travel in style and comfort. Your journey will take approximately 30 minutes from the center of Heraklion and you will pass by many picturesque Cretan villages, giving you time to get introduced to the land and the sea from where many of your ingredients are sourced.
Your class will be led by two local Cretan cooks. Dishes will include an array of mouthwatering delights, such as ‘dakos’ -a combination of chopped tomato, feta cheese, salt, oregano and pepper served upon softened rusk- or ‘dolmadakia’ -a traditional Greek dish, consisting of vine leaves stuffed with a delicious rice mixture. Your main dish could be lamb with a side of artichokes, or ‘Gemista’, which is a dish of stuffed, oven-cooked vegetables. For dessert, traditional pies, stuffed with local cheese and generously drizzled with pure, amber-colored honey will be crafted by you with the help of the experts.
At the end of your cooking class, when you’ll have worked up an appetite, you’ll be able to try the delicious dishes you lovingly created, paired with some of the best local wines!
